Endgame Drills
Play textbook endgames against the full-strength engine. Win the won ones, hold the drawn ones.
Checkmate with queen and king against a lone king. Use the queen to box the king in, bring your own king up, and mate on the edge.
Checkmate with rook and king. Cut the king off with the rook, bring your king into opposition, then check to push the enemy king back.
You have an extra pawn and the kings face each other. Take the opposition, lead with the king and promote the pawn.
You are a pawn down but your king is in front of the pawn. Keep the opposition and White can never get through.
A knight and a pawn beat a lone king. Escort the pawn with the king, use the knight to cover the squares in front, and promote.
Rook and pawn against rook with your king in front of the pawn. Check the black king away, build the bridge and promote.
You are a pawn down in a rook endgame, but your king is in front of the pawn and your rook is on the sixth rank. Hold the draw.
Your king leads the pawn and the black king is cut off by two files. Escort the pawn to the seventh rank and finish with the Lucena technique.
The pawns look blocked and the kings are far away. Find the pawn sacrifice that creates an unstoppable passed pawn.
Black's pawn is one move from promotion and your king is far away. Use checks to force the king in front of the pawn, then bring your king closer.
Checkmate with two bishops. Place the bishops side by side to build a wall, then use the king to drive the enemy king into a corner.
You have a bishop against a rook. Your king is in the safe corner, the one that is the opposite colour to your bishop. Keep it there and the rook cannot win.
A queen beats a rook, but it takes precise play. Push the king and rook to the edge, then win the rook with a fork or a pin.
The hardest basic mate. Drive the king to the corner that matches your bishop's colour and deliver mate with all three pieces working together.
